Gwen Stevens had a privileged life until her father spoke three little words that turned her world upside down. “You’re cut off.”

Broke and desperate, Gwen is forced to accept a waitressing job, but this glimmer of hope has a price. As if being a cocktail waitress isn’t bad enough, she has to do it in a dive bar called The Den, and her bad luck doesn’t stop there. She also needs to deal with the new owner, a blue-eyed, self-righteous ass determined to make her life miserable.

Liam Sinclair walked away from the entitlement and obligation his family planned for him, vowing to make his own way in the world…

Adjusting to life as a new business owner, Liam has experienced more than his fair share of setbacks. When his only waitress breaks her leg, his sister takes it upon herself to hire a replacement—a spoiled, self-indulgent hothead with too much makeup and more than enough attitude. Gwen represents the world he’s trying to escape, a world of excess and greed that he was never cut out for.

Appearances can be deceiving, and first impressions aren’t always right…

Despite their apparent differences, the tension between them turns to a fiery passion that neither of them can resist. Together they find balance and learn to appreciate the simpler things in life. But Gwen soon discovers that old habits die hard, and one mistake is all it takes to ruin everything.

Forgiveness must be earned, but even a villain deserves a chance at redemption…

My Review:

4 Out Of 5 Stars

Genre: Romance--

Gwen has been cut off from her Daddy, told she has a total of $5000 left and she needs to become an adult. When all of her “friend” and hook-up fail to give her a job, she is desperate. Desperate enough to take a job as a waitress at a complete dive of a bar. When Liam’s waitress got injured he needed a replacement quick, but he had no idea that his big-hearted sister would hire a spoiled, high maintenance girl with no experience. Liam and Gwen instantly bat heads, and they both know Gwen does not fit in, but together they fight to make it work.

This is book 3 in the Madison Square series, with each book as a standalone romance story, but with characters from the previous books popping up here and there.

I loved Liam right from the start- strike that, I loved Liam from the last book in the series, Choosing Happy, where he was introduced (to me at least- he may have been in book 1 in the series, but I have not read it). He is this incredibly compassionate, no-nonsense guy who is not afraid of hard work to make his dreams come true. He was the person everyone leaned on because they knew how strong he was- both emotionally and physical. Annnd it doesn’t hurt that he is big, rugged and dreamy. So anyway, I was so excited to get a book about Liam and I had no idea who his love interest would be.

Enter Gwen, who from the start of this book was a completely entitled, spoiled, selfish hot mess. There was a ton of baggage surrounding her from the first book (based on what I read in this book- remember I have not read the first book) that was mentioned here, but it was not 100% important to this story. Can I just say that I really did not like Gwen? She was pretty much a terrible person, who used sex as a tool to get what she wanted. All her sexual encounters were just so freaking awkward- her encounters with Liam were enough to have her wanting him regardless of his other positive attributes, just saying. Anyway, I was not really sure how I was going to like this romance book when I could not stand one of the participants. It took at least half the story before Gwen started to be a person (not just a bitchy- bimbo Barbie) and then I really started to enjoy who she was growing up into. Sure she still had some cringe worthy moments where I wanted to shake her, but in general I liked her by the stories end.

There were two things I was a little miffed about this book. The first being how quick to judge and how harsh Liam was about a certain something that happened. He is this calm, rational guy who flew off the handle without talking about the situation. And sure, emotions can make you do crazy things, but I felt that his actions were very out of character. I mean even Gwen’s arch-enemy who hates her guts wanted to hear her out, but not the man who confessed his love. The second issue I had with the book was how abrupt the ending was! There was like 2 pages of them reconciling (spoiler- yes, this book has a HEA) and then the book ended. I wanted an epilogue or at least a little more interaction between the two before the ending (and this is probably a me problem that nobody else will have, but still, I like the endings). I just hope I get to see more of the two of them in books to come.

Overall this was a fast character driven romance with two people who ended up being basically meant for each other. I look forward to more from this author (and maybe a Madison/Sean Wedding??)

I received this title in return for my honest review.

Author Bio:

Samatha “Sam” Harris lives near Baltimore, Maryland with her husband David and daughter Ava. Born in Florida, she migrated north which most people agree was a little backwards. She has been an artist all of her life, a Tattoo Artist for more than ten years, and a storyteller since she was a kid.
Sam has a slightly unhealthy love for Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and Jazz and Bluesmusic, but her first love will always be reading. From Romance, to Thrillers, to HistoricalFiction and everything in between, she loves to become a part of the story. As a writer she tells the stories that she would want to read.
